Morning Prayer
06 August 2016

The following prayer was read out during the Morning service on Sunday 6 August  2016. Our thanks to Mr Hugh Bowerman for leading this service.
Beware the thief who comes
to steal your goodwill, and fill the gap with cynicism.
Pray that you will always believe the best of human nature,
even in the worst of circumstances.
Pray for those who are their own worst enemies . . . .

Beware the thief who comes
to steal your generosity, and fill the gap with greed.
Pray for the opportunities to give of what you have
as a lifestyle choice.
Pray for those who live with little or nothing to call their own . . . .

Beware the thief who comes
to steal your hospitality, and fill the gap with prejudice.
Pray that you have the maturity to respond
to the needs of others out of love and not fear.
Pray for those who seek refuge on our shores . . . .

Beware the thief who comes
to steal your graciousness, and fill the gap with resentment.
Pray that you will have self awareness
to see how you are and how you affect others.
Pray for those who feel the bitterness of others attitudes . . . .

Beware the thief who comes
to steal your dignity, and fill the gap with pain and suffering.
Pray that you have the support and comfort
to endure in faith and hope.
Pray for the anxious. the lonely, the ill . . . .

Beware the thief who comes
to steal your hope, and fill the gap with despair.
Pray that you will trust in God's promises
of a better way for the whole of creation.
Pray for those who work for the coming of God's kingdom.

Amen
